Stonehaus Landscaping & Design

We are a residential landscaping design & build company. This means we design residential landscapes (your home and yard), construct the hardscapes (paver, natural stone and porcelain patios and vertical features) and install the softscapes (plants and sod). We do outdoor lights as part of a holistic approach to the design process.

We proudly serve homeowners across Southwestern Ontario, focusing heavily on Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Brantford, Woodstock, Paris, and the surrounding municipalities.

We stand behind the quality of our craftsmanship. We offer a ten year sink or settle policy because we believe in our craftsmanship. Additionally, many of the manufacturers of materials we work with (Unilock, Techno-bloc, Banas Stone etc) offer significant warranties on their products.

Local Cost & Pricing

In the areas we serve (Kitchener, Brantford, Woodstock, Ancaster and surrounding area) a patio build costs $5,000 - $250,000 or presented another way: $25-$75 per square foot. The two biggest factors it depends on are the surface area and the material used. Luckily for you, you can input both of these into our online patio calculator and instantly receive your precise estimate.

While poured concrete can have a lower upfront cost, interlocking pavers are infinitely more durable in our climate, won't crack like concrete, and offer far superior long-term value. They offer more variety in style, colour and design.

Interlocking Pavers are precast concrete units that are installed in a pattern to create a patio. They are durable in our climate, won't crack like concrete, and offer far superior long-term value. They offer a large variety in style, colour and design.

Natural Stone is all that but more luxury. Natural Stone is the timeless option, both in terms of durability and style and will match any house.

Porcelain is another option that sits between pavers and natural stone (pricewise). Porcelain is anti Slip. Resistant to salt/moss. Resistant to Color Change. Low Water Absorption. Has Force & Abrasion Strength. Anti Frost

No never hidden costs ever! The only additional costs are typically municipal permit fees (if required) which we handle. This applies more to walls and vertical features. Stuff like steps and firepits may require permits depending on the scope and municipality. But we outline all disposal costs clearly in your initial quote - no surprises.

Patios, Walkways & Driveways

A standard 400 sq.ft. patio typically takes our crews 5 to 7 working days from excavation to the final reveal.

Yes! In many cases, we can install coping and pavers directly over an existing structurally sound concrete porch to completely transform your entryway without costly demolition.

Mostly yes, but it depends on the conditions of the site. Sometimes permeable chips or resin sand are more appropriate.

The base would be 12 inches but we have to excavate enough to include a 1 inch bedding layer and the thickness of the pavers (Which are often ~80mm - thicker than pavers used for patios/walkways). So like 15 or 16 inches total.

We use open-graded base and bedding, this eliminates moisture that encourages weed growth. The best defense is a properly installed base and high-quality polymeric sand in the joints. Keeping the patio clean and occasionally topping up the sand will keep weeds away.

Retaining Walls & Steps

There are different rules for each municipality. If it's exposed to the public (like a walkup to your front door) or over 1m tall (3'3") it probably will require a permit and sometimes engineering. Also steps more than 4 risers tall may require a permit. We handle this entire process for you.

Natural stone steps are cut directly from quarries and offer highly unique textures and colors. Precast concrete steps are manufactured for uniformity, offering clean lines and modern aesthetics.

We build heavily compacted, wide gravel bases and use proper geogrid reinforcement layers tying the wall block deep into the soil behind it, preventing forward lean. Of course, proper drainage is essential to prevent heaving.

Process, Timeline & Logistics

You need to provide a deposit of 50% to get scheduled. Next we have to coordinate the delivery of materials, any trade partners and permits. We can get this done usually within the week. Suppliers usually stock the most commonly used materials but unique or custom matertials have a lead time (so keep that in mind).

We slope the paved surface away from your foundation at typically 1 inch drop per 8 feet run. This moves the water away from your foundation but is imperceptible to your eyes or sense of balance. Other drainage issues can be addressed with drains, catch basins; it all depends on the situation.

We use our best judgement to take care of your property. We use plywood to protect your any surface we poperate on. If any damage does occur we will do our best to replace it.

Not at all. As long as we have access to the site and water/power if needed, our crews are completely self-sufficient. You can go to work and come home to see the progress!

Yes of course. We dedicate the last 30 minutes of every workday to tidy up the site of any debris, dust, mud, off-cuts whatever it is. Always assume neighbours are watching and noticing. A clean and professional experience is what we provide.
